Roger Peterson, in an email to Robert Baebenroth, stated, "Christopher came to Iowa with a brother David and a Sylvanes who was either a brother or uncle." Roger goes on to explain, "In 1990 two others and I hired a researcher in Madison Co., NY who found some things but nothing to extend the family back from the generation of John Van Slyke. I communicated at that time with Judy Krygier, 835 Sage Circle, Lincoln, Neb. 68520 who was descended from David Van Slyke, Christopher's brother. One of my co-researchers was Janet Dryer, 694 Sage Circle, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126, a descendant of Sylvenus Van Slyke, Christopher's brother or young uncle."

The OSL was under the control of the Union Pacific. In 1893 the UPRR went into bankruptcy. In 1897, emerged as an indempendent, the Oregon Short Line & Utah Northern. The Rev. Ira W. Kingsley pastor of the church, officiated. The church was crowded with friends and relatives of the decesased who wished to pay her a final tribute. The Rev. Kingsley in his discourse spoke highly of the Christian character and fine qualities of the deceased. The numerous and beautiful floral offering which banked the casket and the altar were silent tributes to Mrs. Sharman's standing in the community. Mrs. A. C. Sonneland and Mrs. Elton Woodford, friends of the deceased, sung "No Night There," and "My Faith Looks Up to Thee." Miss Bessie McGowan, organist, accompanied them. The pallbearers were J. E. Overman, W. F. Taggart, M???? Kissinger, Frank Homan?, O. B. Drake, and Robert Wicks. Interment was made at Lakeside. Relatives of the deceased who came to Canon City to attend the funeral were Mrs. Sharman's father, Luther Van Slyke of Bakersfield, Calif., two sisters Mrs. Walter Spreyer and Mrs. Gollatos both of Bakersfield, a daughter Mrs. Roger R. Means of Long Beach, Calif., Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Sharman of Littleton; a son, Eric Sharman of Long Beach, California; and a daughter, Mrs. W. F. Bricker and her son Jack of Pueblo.
